The Scheme provides for 100 per cent Central Assistance to the State Governments and UT Administrations over and above the respective committed liability of the State/UT. The committed liability of the North Eastern States has, however, been dispensed with. The scheme presently covers over 30 lakh Scheduled Caste students.
